General anaesthesia in cattle may be preferred over other techniques, particularly for complex and
prolonged surgical procedures when the technical and anatomical aspects of the surgical procedure warrant
absolute control of pain and movement during surgery. Maintenance of anaesthesia with inhalants in ruminants
is considered to be superior to injectable techniques.
