Idioms are the essence of every national culture. They are rich in content and diverse in form, reflecting
the cultural customs and historical changes of a nation. There are many idioms in both English and Chinese.
However, due to their different cultural connotations, English and Chinese animal metaphor idioms are not exactly
equivalent in meaning, which causes some difficulties in translation. Therefore, proper idiom translation plays a
very important role in enhancing the understanding and communication between different cultures. This paper aims
at the relationship and influence between cultural metaphorical mapping and translation from the perspective of
English animal idioms.
